St Peters, Neatishead
Situated on the outskirts of the village in Church Road, you will find St Peter's Church. This Church has been here for at least 700 years and is mentioned in the Diocesan records of AD 1301. The Church reached the peak of its glory during the 15th and 16th centuries as a result of the wool trade. At that time the Church comprised chancel, knave, tower with spire, painted screen depicting the 12 apostles and some stained glass. The building extended almost to the existing churchyard gates.
Unfortunately the Church fell into decay during the 17th century leading ultimately to the collapse of the tower and knave.
In 1790 the churchwardens and other local people undertook to extend and convert the chancel into the Church as we see it today.
